Project Description: Built in the 1950’s, the chapel at St. Elizabeths Campus East has been converted into the R.I.S.E (REL8.INOV8.STIMUL8.ELEV8) Demonstration Center. The renovated space serves as an innovation marketplace intended to showcase new technologies, serve as a community economic empowerment center which provides support to for local businesses, and a talent development campus which provides technology training and workforce development for the community.

The renovated chapel includes a digital inclusion center, flexible creative spaces, demonstration areas, meeting and conference space, and a community computer lab with programming provided by DC’s tech partners like the District of Columbia’s community college.

The 14,600 SF design-build renovation was completed in 10 weeks and included upgrade of building and life safety systems, interiors including kitchen facilities, landscaping, and some remediation of the chapel’s exterior. While not a designated historic property, the chapel was preserved as part of the designated historic campus.
