The SIGAL Companies Spend 2014 Giving Back

Washington, DC, January 2015— GCS, Inc. and SIGAL Construction Corporation actively spent 2014 giving back to the community on a local and national level. With a volunteer program that continues to thrive, employees of both organizations participated in the following events over the past year:

  • Exercising for a cause at the JDRF Real Estate Games in which employees participated in various sporting events to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. According to JDRF, a total of more than $430,000 was raised to find a cure for type 1 diabetes. A special congratulations to Project Manager Chuck Yetter who tied for first place in the men’s weightlifting event!
  • As part of our joint venture, GCS-SIGAL, LLC spent an afternoon at the Cardozo Education Campus speed networking with students at the DC Construction Trade Academy. The program was an opportunity for students to meet industry professionals who work in the careers that they are interested in, and to apply the networking skills they have learned.
  • The SIGAL Companies donated both materials and labor to the National Building Museum’s construction of The BIG Maze this summer. The 61×61 foot maze, housed in the building’s grand atrium, was open to visitors through September 1.
  • In addition to being a corporate sponsor for the event, a team of employees and friends participated in DCBIA’s Community Improvement Day held at Dwight A. Mosley Sports Complex.
  • GCS-SIGAL, LLC hosted a Green Apple Day of Service event at Woodrow Wilson High School on September 27. Members of partnering organizations and students performed a clean-up of Soapstone Tributary and the Outdoor Pollinator Garden. Whole Foods Market Tenley and WH Boyer donated food and planting supplies (respectively) to the cause.
  • At the start of the NFL season, The SIGAL Companies created a “Pigskin Pick’Em League” with a $5 play-in price per week. The winner each week chose a charity in which the week’s collected money would be donated.
  • For the third year in a row, SIGAL and GCS employees chose a select Friday in October to wear their team jerseys. Each employee donated $5 to support their sports team with all proceeds donated to Breast Cancer research.
  • Employees collected more than 90 books in a company book drive for the For Love of Children Annual Book Festival in November. The books collected made it possible for students to receive more books and continue their interest and enthusiasm about reading and learning.
